Resident Evil HD Remaster (Video Game Review)


Based upon the Gamecube remake of the release that kick-started an entire franchise, Resident Evil HD Remaster is everything Evil Within should have been. Retaining the daft B-movie plot and slow, methodical gameplay as you face down the shambling hordes of the undead, it doesn’t take long to realise that a minor graphical upgrade was all that this ever needed.

    1. I'd certainly like to, but it really depends upon time and money. I'm now working a full time job atop of writing reviews and, sadly, Games Workshop does not give out review copies of its products. As such pretty much every codex review you've read on here has either been bought out of pocket or borrowed from friends for a few weeks. I'll certainly try, but unfortunately I can't promise anything any time soon.

  2. I hadn't bought this game because I already own the REmake, and as I thought it's just another HD upscaling. It's nice that they brought it to more consoles but I find it a little odd when Game developers don't add extras, at this point most of the people who're going to buy the game have played the previous versions, so why not add extra unlockables to go for, or other game modes (and by that I don't mean one more difficulty)?

    That said I know some people who never played the REmake and don't have a Gamecube so they'll probably enjoy this, and as an aside, the funniest thing I've seen about the game is people accidentally choosing easy mode then getting really upset on forum posts when they find out they chose easy.

    1. Well, in all honesty this is more a trait by Capcom than anything else. After a bout of raving insanity where they killed off the Megaman franchise, turned Resident Evil 6 into a disaster no one wanted and let a PR nightmare of a human being helm the DmC reboot, they're not doing too well financially. This is not to mention a lot of other things atop of this. Bringing out the REmake like this is one of a few steps they're making to try and actually recover financially, going after things which were hits in the past. At least that's my take on this anyway, and it does explain the lack of real extras.

      Still, it's a pretty solid game despite that and if it's a hit we might see the same happen with Resident Evil 2 at some point, Perhaps even a full remake akin to what was done with the Halo: Master Chief Collection (sans horrible bugs).

      Also. yeah, i've been reading about that myself. It's pretty damn hilarious how many seem to overlook what that early choice actually meant.
