XCOM 2 Announced - Player Controlled Terror Missions
Firaxis has announced the long expected sequel to its 2012 reboot XCOM: Enemy Unknown, further developing the story of humanity’s struggles against a seemingly unstoppable alien invasion.
The bad news is we’re not getting that Terror from the Deep remake many were hoping for; but the good news is that Firaxis has gone in a direction few truly expected: it’s set in a world where the player lost the war.

I'm really looking forward to this, though I have to wonder what the main reason for the rebellion is, it can't just be them wanting Humanity to be free of the aliens because that's not really justified. The aliens ruling with an iron fist is even understandable given how they're welcomed in the first game, sure they started it (for a pretty stupid reason I'll admit) but you still had a "shoot first, ask questions/negotiate never" policy that wasn't winning you any favours. The soldiers who are with the aliens don't even seem that evil, they're just doing their job until they're shot and killed by the resistance for seemingly no reason other than they wanted to kill the alien that was with them (who once again wasn't doing anything bad).
ReplyDeleteI'm sure this'll be fleshed out more though since this is essentially a teaser trailer, one thing I do hope they remove was that ridiculous bit where the enemy got a free move every time you saw them, but you didn't get one every time they saw you. Either give it to both parties or don't because it creates a very unfair advantage to one side before you factor in how the computer cheats (as in has boosted accuracy/damage past what the in-game bits tell you to make it seem like the game is getting harder).
Despite that though the previous one was still a very good game and I'm hoping this one will be too.
Well, the main reason for the rebellion is that the aliens are doing to us what they did to the Floaters, Mutons and Thin Men in the first game; turning us into a slave race.
DeleteIt's just that the Aliens have a really good PR deparment, so no one understands just how bad they're going to screw us over.
If that's their idea of a slave race then I really don't have a problem with it and you're definitely playing as the villains. It's strange though that it's taken them 20+ years and making all the cities into sci-fi esque cities to screw humanity over but I guess we'll see when the next trailer comes out.
DeleteWell, it's the V approach, if you ever saw the old series. The Aliens show up, pretend to be benevolent in order to minimize the risk of any uprisings or armed resistance. And then, once everyone's nice and compliant and Think that the aliens are just the best thing that's ever happened to humanity...
DeleteBAM! Those of us who're useful get the Thin Man/Muton treatment, everyone else gets turned into lab mice for psi/gene experiments or Soylent Green.
I'm just amused that it didn't even take a day for the 'Net to Rule 34 the Viper. What is wrong with our species?
ReplyDeleteMore seriously, I couldn't be happier about this piece of news, since Enemy Unknown/Within is one of my favorite games.
There's already Rule 34 of the Snake(wo)man? I need to see it out of "scientific curiosity."
DeleteIn all seriousness though, firstly they did put armour with identifiable boobs on the alien, you can put boob armour on a toaster and there'll be porn of it before the end of the day (or even just a heart, look at what happened with the Companion Cube). Secondly please don't send me a link, I'm sure that'll just open the floodgates for Rule 34 on so many other things in XCOM that I'd be happier in not knowing.
