Five Nights At Freddy's (Video Game Review)
Proving that there is no such thing as a truly unworkable idea, Five Nights At Freddy’s approaches horror from a bafflingly weird angle by setting it in a family pizzeria filled with murderous anthropomorphic mascots. Tasked with keeping an eye on the place at night, the player is forced to ensure that the shambling monstrosities do not break into the security office and murder them.
This is definitely the most divisible title I've seen in a while, a lot of people really like it and think it's scary, others aren't affected by it in the slightest and find it boring. I think it all depends on how well you can immerse yourself into the game you're playing, everyone I've seen who doesn't like it never bothered to get too into it in the first place.
ReplyDeleteThat said the biggest issue I have is how the game can get you in an unwinnable situation without telling you, excluding Foxy at Pirate Cove, they all sneak into the room with you (disabling both door buttons), and kill you when you look away from their door, or look at the cameras then the room again. It's possible to survive with them in the room if you never look away from the door or from the monitor, but then that means another one can get in the room or Foxy will start running towards you because you cannot watch/stop watching the cameras. Some nights it seems literally impossible because you'll have two of the robots at each door, but if you shut both doors then Freddy can still pop in somehow and get you.
I do agree though that it's definitely worth the low price, and is a pretty good game to trick a friend into playing.
Speaking personally I think it also comes down to focus. It takes a very different approach from the likes of Outlast, Amnesia and even Resident Evil, and it's honestly much easier to distract yourself from the horror. If you focus purely upon resource management and get your mind in the zone, I can see how some people could ignore any scare factor in the game. Well, that and it could come down to personal preference obviously.
DeleteOddly enough I actually never ran into that problem, but it does definitely sound like something which could happen. Quite surprising really, I should have picked up on that issue, thank you for telling me about it.
