Updates, patches and the like are always problematic. For every new update can come new glitches, bugs and failures. EA’s Origin system recently proved this with a disastrous patch which blocked all online gaming with their titles, yet somehow Sega has managed to perform an even worse error. An update to the Japanse MMO
Phantasy Star Online 2
has managed to enrage the game’s community as it has led to player hard drives being wiped.
According to users, an update to the game’s launcher began deleting various files at random from PCs. Stories from players have stated that it went so far as to try and free up multiple gigabytes for the game, resulting in hard drives being completely wiped clean of all data. The updater itself has been shown to delete various sensitive files in efforts to free up data, including programs necessary for launching Windows itself.
