Tryst
is what
Command and Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight
was supposed to have been! This is a multiplayer angled title, emphasising upon skirmish matches which are short, sweet and direct; the sort of ones well suited for cybercafés and tournaments. The mechanics are interesting, the gameplay is swift and the two factions have distinctive styles from one another. It’s just a shame that the title clearly needed a few months more development.
The story is… actually you know what, it’s unnecessary. No really, you’d not lose nothing short of a few humorous lines of dialogue and a few achievements by just skipping to skirmishing against AI opponents in multiplayer. Most of the background and necessary storyline you’ll learn in the first screen after the game loads, assuming you even care. Plus the actual storytelling which follows in each level just feels so much more amateurish, featuring no real introduction to the characters or time spent to build up the world you’re in.
It’s like Trystsuffered from the reverse of what was inflicted upon Spec Ops: The Line, with BlueGiant being obligated to tack it on tohelp it get distributed. Really if they wanted to expand upon the storylinethey should have set up a few basic elements in this and then left it for asequel. Instead devoting more time to the development of the mechanics andgameplay. Because boy does the problems not end with the game’s story.
