IF they didn't have room in the book for more introspective or thoughtful moments, then they could have released a novella alongside it, or even a full novel, covering the war in Ultramar and Guilliman re-learning all that has taken place. Given to a talented writer, that could have been the major boost to get any lore fanatics still hesitant about this idea on board with the new story line. Come to think ...One more thing I think they missed. Come to think of every other traitor legion that actually didn't fail miserably, like the Alpha Legion, Iron Warriors, Word Bearers, Night Lords, why didn't they mention anything worthy of their presence. Mortarion was beaten badly by the GK, or to be more precise by one GK, Angron, Magnus both have been conveniently banished in key narative moments, Slaanesh hasn't been doing anything of notice for a long time. But then again the first are not allowed to take any unique units in their armies via the Traitor Legions supplement because the later ar much to popular and bland to miss as an mindless advertising opportunity. It's a siege on Ultramar, damn it, where are the WB?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12825810952148594305noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1831276194138109948.post-47608619352061609962017-03-16T01:54:29.413+00:002017-03-16T01:54:29.413+00:00I suppose this really is about the best it can be,...I suppose this really is about the best it can be, all things considered. Apparently it's not dogshit (although I haven't read it quite yet) and I guess that's good enough for me.
I do wish they expanded more on certain points, and honestly this might have been one of the best books to not focus on the lead. There's so many aspects of the Imperium to look at with Guilliman's returning that you could make an entire series on it, and I hope they explore those in the future.grdaathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00722216755745063033noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1831276194138109948.post-58714401657732084482017-03-16T01:45:40.639+00:002017-03-16T01:45:40.639+00:00Apparently it was a combination of Ynnari doing th...Apparently it was a combination of Ynnari doing their necromancy, Celestine using one of her blessings (she can also raise the dead) and Belisarius Cawl creating a suit for him that contains a life-support system (keep in mind, he's an Archmagos so that should be in well within his abilities).
The combination of those three things sounds like a fairly plausible reason for him to come back, to me anyway.grdaathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00722216755745063033noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1831276194138109948.post-81005669142182560432017-03-15T21:22:42.319+00:002017-03-15T21:22:42.319+00:00Actually, that is somewhat stated in here, it'...Actually, that is somewhat stated in here, it's just not made very clear. To try and justify Ynnead's involvement, it is suggested that the Eldar god's power was needed to halt the poison and is part of what is keeping him alive. If Guilliman leaves his armour or crosses them, it's suggested that they will remove this power and he will die. It's not made clear if it's simply contained within his body or purged entirely, but either way they were needed to help fix some of the damage.

Also, their involvement was suggested to have "fixed" the psychological damage of the attack. Between these elements, we'll likely see the eldar trying to strong-arm the Imperium into helping them at a later date.Bellariushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02652722543111095280noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1831276194138109948.post-85139737958311721422017-03-15T21:19:36.623+00:002017-03-15T21:19:36.623+00:00That's something i'll hopefully be getting...That's something i'll hopefully be getting into with part four where I discuss the role of the primarchs in this new universe and their depiction. He is a talented writer, and produced some great stories, but people noted that he started to fall into a creative rut over the last few years in executing certain ideas and actions. This book kind of reflected his worst trends at points.

As for the Forgeworld books, for the most part the company has been fantastic. Their Imperial Armour series has been great overall, and they have added substantially to the events surrounding the Heresy. The problem is that, once in a while, it seems that they end up with an advising writer who has something they want to accomplish. In the case of the Taros Campaign, we had a writer wanting to give the Tau Empire a victory (hardly a bad thing in my opinion) but kept pushing that victory by making the Imperials increasingly incompetent at every turn. Something which sadly got reflected in a few recent Tau Empire campaigns.

As for the primarchs, they've been hit and miss. You have a few who have leaned towards some of the more irritating trends of late, like the retcon that Ferrus Manus hated bionics and wanted the Iron Hands to having nothing to do with them, while being a raging blind sociopath begging for a headshot, or Angron losing any competence or combat capabilities he might have once held. However, they're much more tempered than in the novels and usually better balanced out, written in a way which does go against the original lore, but is presented well enough that the retcons can at least be respected.

Unfortunately, we had two very bad ones show up a few years back. One, as mentioned below, surrounded Perturabo, where he was turned from previous depictions as a cold, calculating ruler removed from human concepts, or a bitter warrior never given the chance to be a builder, to a moron. This is the guy who kills a substantial number of his own legion upon arrival, just because they're not the "best" of all legions, and throws them into a meat grinder battle just to show who is in command.
The other one is Guilliman, who takes a turn for the Ward. Basically, the books went back to Guilliman being better than everything than anyone else, and took it to an absolute extreme. Not only are a few units cited to have been copied from special forces of legions specialized to perfect their way of war, but they're always noted to be better than the originals. In addition to this, the book keeps making ludicrous declarations about Guilliman's skills, until it states that had he simply been warned of the Heresy, the Ultramarines could have taken on all of the traitor forces at once, without backup, and at least fought them to a standstill if not won.

Yeah, that caused a few people to spit-take upon reading that last bit.Bellariushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02652722543111095280noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1831276194138109948.post-40380390340633370222017-03-15T20:51:17.802+00:002017-03-15T20:51:17.802+00:00hold up hold up.......the problem i have with the ...hold up hold up.......the problem i have with the primarch coming back is the fact that fulgrim stabbed him in the throat with one of the four Poisoned swords he had. why is NO ONE touching or even mentioning the daemonic poison that would be in his system?
from my understanding daemonic poison is almost impossible to cure, and if it was poison that Slaanesh stole from Nurgle, then its definitely going to be impossible to cure just sayin.

ultimately as stated in the article matt ward completely skiped over the fact that it was a poisoned blade that damn near took off his ultra smurfs head!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17153357366404431202noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1831276194138109948.post-38068540994304109312017-03-15T20:50:40.520+00:002017-03-15T20:50:40.520+00:00hold up hold up.......the problem i have with the ...hold up hold up.......the problem i have with the primarch coming back is the fact that fulgrim stabbed him in the throat with one of the four Poisoned swords he had. why is NO ONE touching or even mentioning the daemonic poison that would be in his system?
from my understanding daemonic poison is almost impossible to cure, and if it was poison that Slaanesh stole from Nurgle, then its definitely going to be impossible to cure just sayin.

ultimately as stated in the article matt ward completely skiped over the fact that it was a poisoned blade that damn near took off his ultra smurfs head!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17153357366404431202noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1831276194138109948.post-31226351293993552792017-03-13T22:46:35.982+00:002017-03-13T22:46:35.982+00:00Perturabo decimating a tenth of his legion when he...Perturabo decimating a tenth of his legion when he met them comes to mind.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12074846732669835772noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1831276194138109948.post-59330311439972485372017-03-13T12:01:33.337+00:002017-03-13T12:01:33.337+00:00I'm really looking forward to your take on the...I'm really looking forward to your take on the battle of the two Primarchs.
