It's the same reason why I personally thought having more original characters in stories was always great, bu setting one group as being a part of an elite, building them up as badasses but knowing there was someone above them who eclipsed them, it made them feel legendary. Even in the case of Helbrecht, it honestly seemed as if he'd fully earned that role and was still a warrior of great renown. By separating it out, there was always more a sense of grandeur to it, and by turning it into an upgrade it just seems that there's nothing special at all. Each to their own of course, but i'd honestly just like that distinction to remain.

As for squadrons, personally I hoped that was in pat down to allowing for more flexability tactically, at least away from the formations. We have had people flooding battlefields with vehicles for quite a while now (thank you Imperial Guard) and by comparison the space marine ones aren't quite so dangerous. Now if they were Land Raiders i'd be agreeing with you entirely, but Predators and the like, not quite so much. It's certainly an idea I kind of like personally, even if it could use a lot more work, like more than a few things here.Bellariushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02652722543111095280noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1831276194138109948.post-29521373733829595922015-07-05T22:54:57.804+01:002015-07-05T22:54:57.804+01:00Yeah, it's been in the lore for quite a while ...Yeah, it's been in the lore for quite a while now but it's one of those things the fandom keeps having a strange obsession over. Strange really, but given Games Workshop's inability to give a distinct yes or no over it these days, can't quite blame people for wondering.Bellariushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02652722543111095280noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1831276194138109948.post-80803384092943419932015-07-04T20:12:42.255+01:002015-07-04T20:12:42.255+01:00In the Black Templars codex (back when they had on...In the Black Templars codex (back when they had one) there is a diagram of a Space Marine, and from that I can guarantee they have no genitals.grdaathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00722216755745063033noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1831276194138109948.post-60990125394628739062015-07-04T14:06:13.277+01:002015-07-04T14:06:13.277+01:00tbh the first pic has always been for me the ultim...tbh the first pic has always been for me the ultimate proof that space marines have no penisesJorgehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13056620916107949824noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1831276194138109948.post-84065182923876350202015-07-04T05:57:41.279+01:002015-07-04T05:57:41.279+01:00To be fair to the Chapter Master upgrade, in the B...To be fair to the Chapter Master upgrade, in the Black Templars the High Marshal actually is just a step higher than the other Marshals. They don't really have anything too special making them stand apart (which is why the High Marshal is decided on by vote) and it's also why the High Marshal (and in fact any Marshal) rarely participate in the actual fighting. Most of the time they're too concerned with tactics and strategic positioning (or nonsense as I think 40K would call it, it's also why they can live for so long), and in fact Helbrecht didn't actually do anything special to earn his position, at least not until the 6th edition Codex came out and decided to Kaldor Draigo up his backstory by having him stab a Daemon Prince to death when he was only armed with a combat blade.

I am against there being more than one Chapter Master per Chapter in the new rulebook though, it's kind of sad seeing they don't put limitations on that.

Personally I don't get why they felt the need to squadron up the tanks, in the rulebook it says that you can take as many detachments/formations as you want, meaning if you want 6 predators you take two HQ choices and 4 Troops choices, though this might be me since I don't like seeing somebody able to flood the board with armour as it can make a game extremely one sided very quickly unless your opponent only specializes in Anti-Armour.

Aside from those though I'm really glad they didn't take a few ideas from movie marines or the new Eldar Codex, at least there's one decent book out now.grdaathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00722216755745063033noreply@blogger.com
