He became High Marshal several thousand years after Sigismund's death, funnily enough nobody knows how he died either though I'm willing to bet it was the Bloodthirster they show him (stupidly) taking on that killed him given that's the last record they have of him.
He's also in an old White Dwarf back when they were showing you how to do conversions and he's notable for being one of the few Marines to wear Cataphractii Terminator armour (though in that case it was a combination of plastic strips, white glue, Terminator and 'Ard Boy sprues) and it looks exactly like Forgeworld's current Cataphractii armour.grdaathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00722216755745063033noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1831276194138109948.post-25084375690427788792015-06-29T23:16:40.273+01:002015-06-29T23:16:40.273+01:00Well, it's not so much that they skip it entir...Well, it's not so much that they skip it entirely so much as severely abridge it. You're given no idea what El'Jonson was like, no idea what Caliban was like, barely any concept of what the legion was like. It's pretty much just a single paragraph focusing upon the Horus Heresy, then another two outlining Luther and El'Jonson's war. The problem is it's so rushed anyone new has barely any idea just who these people were thanks to it being so short. Really, it does actually seem to be an effort to use Black Library more for general lore, but the problem is that there's no balance between content in these books and the novels anymore it seems.

You actually also do have a good point about the lore there and its treatment. in this case though, it's not so much removed as expanded, but the problem is that so much of that seems to have been severely stumped thanks to the format. I could also get behind your idea that this could be for new campaigns, but it's not as if anything goes unmentioned. If anything, it's still there but so woefully shortened down you can barely get anything out of it. Plus, as the timeline shows, there's plenty of room for more campaigns over the last ten thousand years. If they're removing things to try and make more space, then it's a really unnecessary decision on their part.

As for the Masters of the Forge, it's a mixture of age and general atrophy placed upon their bodies. They're permanently linked with the machine, and keep serving until they eventually die, their bodies rotting away entirely. This doesn't seem to extend their age at all, but it does seem that they spend hundreds of years at a time in this service.

Also, and this is only tangentially linked, but it seems likely that Sigismund might be the High Marshall who proves to be especially long lived. There's mentions of him dueling Abaddon during the First Black Crusade, having waited for the former Chieftain of the Justaerin to return.Bellariushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02652722543111095280noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1831276194138109948.post-6526448484372923322015-06-29T21:20:20.349+01:002015-06-29T21:20:20.349+01:00I think my browser hiccuped instead of posting thi...I think my browser hiccuped instead of posting this comment so I'll retype it:

They barely mention the Horus Heresy?! Really? But their whole goal is hunting the fallen who came from that event! Maybe they're putting less and less mention of it in these books so you have to buy Forgeworld's Horus Heresy series to know what happened, which would not surprise me in the least.

Come to think of it a lot of the lore we know has been removed in favour of later/newer lore that didn't really get any treatment before, maybe they're slowly trying to hide of the stuff we know so they can have new campaigns based around new events?
At least the other lore is good, though I'm very curious how their Masters of the Forge equivalent die, is it age, atrophy or something else? I know there's a few Marine chapters that are all but immune to ageing (Blood Angels and Black Templars oddly enough, one of their High Marshals lived about 2,000 years or so), but I guess the Dark Angels might not be one of them, though I do know that at least one of their interrogators lived 300 years at the least.grdaathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00722216755745063033noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1831276194138109948.post-48891076379832259732015-06-29T21:12:05.639+01:002015-06-29T21:12:05.639+01:00That's just perfect!
